Media Icon Award for Financial Mail Editor

Lisa Buckingham, editor of Financial Mail on Sunday and editor in chief of the Financial Mail on Sunday's Women's Forum, has won the prestigious Media Icon award.

The awards aim to throw a spotlight on outstanding women across British business, professional and public life, whose achievements and individual actions are helping to open up opportunities for others.

"It's an enormous privilege to be named as a winner of the Media Icon award," said Lisa. "Financial Mail Women's Forum has achieved so much over the past year and it is wonderful this has been recognised. We recently re-launched the FMWF website which has helped us gain new visitors and in March 2011, building on the phenomenal success of this year,  we will stage our fourth Breaking the Mould conference to help broaden the career horizons of sixth form girl students. Our second Financial Freedom newsletter published to help women prison leavers get to grips with life on the outside is being sent out to every women's prison in the UK and our 24 -hour free advice line for these vulnerable women is now up and running. I am immensely proud of FMWF's huge achievements during 2009/2010 and look forward to even greater success next year."

The Icons Awards, in association with the Pink Shoe Club, were launched in the House of Lords, with founding patron Benazir Bhutto.  Its patrons include the home secretary, Rt. Hon Theresa May MP and Tessa Sanderson CBE.

"Our icons act as a beacon for others proving that with determination anything is possible," explained Helene Martin Gee, senior parliamentary advisor and founder of the Pink Shoe Club.  "Each icon is a high achiever in her career as well as helping others and being active within society. The enthusiasm and ideas generated by these women are at the forefront of the UK's economic regeneration."
